#@: Timex Men s T46171 Expedition Metal Field Analog Brown Leather Strap Watch

I purchased this watch a year ago. I was very happy with it at first. It's attractive and I like the simple design. It feels solid, and keeps time reliably. If it had kept on like it did the first month, I would have said it was a steal at that price.

However, the backlight broke in just less than a month, which as disappointing as it's one of the main reasons I purchased it. The glow in the dark hands don't last very long, so without the backlight it's pretty much worthless in the dark. Given the cost of the watch, it's really not worth the hassle and expense of repairing.

More disconcerting, the watch has started developing deep pitting on the back, as if it had been subjected to corrosives or spent an extended time in salt water or something. But, nothing like that has happened. I do tend to bang up watches a bit, so maybe the failed backlight is understandable (though unacceptable... it's solid state, it should be able to stand up to anything the mechanism does and more!), but the pitting is crazy. It's never happened with any other watch I've had, including ones which I have actually gone ocean swimming with. The watch has had a gentle life from that respect, I see no reason why this should happen.

Based on later experience with it, I'd give it one star, but I give it a second because my initial impression was so good, and I do miss it... I'm tempted to get another one on the hope that my first was just a lemon, but I'll probably end up with another brand.
